MNM results

To preface, I had two entrants this week (thanks Valerie and Rachel!!!). They both answered 4 correctly so I had to draw for the winner.

And the winner is… Rachel Loth!

The answers were:

1) Hillary Clinton (Sarah Palin was a good guess Rach!)

2) Esther

3) Joan of Ark

4) Marie Antoinette

5) Laura Ingalls Wilder

mnm- name the woman who…

Continuing with last week’s theme, name the…

1) present day woman who has tried to “climb the hill to the presidency”

2) biblical woman who didn’t let her problems fester. She went to the king & demanded kindness for the Jews.

3) historical woman whose battles were an “ark of achievement”.

4) historical woman who supposedly said “Let them eat cake” before she was beheaded.

5) famed children’s storyteller who was a “storyteller of the prairie”.

As mentioned a few posts ago, I’m changing a few things up (learning from trial and error)… from now on, you’ll email me your answers to amandalynnphoto@yahoo.com. Also, the winner will be the person with the most CORRECT answers and though you still can’t (on the honors system of course) use the internet, you can pick others’ brains for help. As always, the prize will be for me to image a picture that you send me. Let the games begin!

blue eyed girl

Here’s my friend’s adorable little blue eyed girl- this time sporting the cutest little blue hat. I decided a few weeks ago that I needed more props for clients to choose from for our sessions (to add a little variety to their wardrobe). Deanna told me about etsy and after looking long enough I realized the sellers who had products I wanted to buy were those who had smashing pictures of the product. My little marketing mind started churning and realized there was an opportunity waiting to happen. So, I messaged several sellers whose product I’d like to own but who didn’t have (much if any) professional images of their products (mostly pettiskirt and hat sellers). I had a few interested parties… one being “Wee Wittle Tid’s Boutique“. She has AMAZING work. The deal was I shoot their products, give them the images like below and I keep the product. Not a terrible trade! So… see this adorable hat and go check out the hat lady’s online boutique!

fall special & not so special!

Fall is officially here! This year’s fall special is 20% off prints 16×20 and larger. (afterthought note: you must mention the fall special when you place your order in order to receive the discount as this rewards my  blog and site readers for keeping up with new stuff).

Did you see my “perfect little package” in the bebe collection. Deanna gave me the idea that it could work for other things like your child’s first birthday and Christmas cards. So, if you’re wanting an awesome Christmas card and only a few images, check it out on my site under “collections”! Call me soon though because in order to have your cards ready in time, we’d need to shoot this month and maybe a week or two into November (though that would be cutting it close).

a few new things, results and madison

I mentioned in a recent post about a few new things I’m working on. I’ve changed and added a few things. I’ll list them below:

  • My portrait session fee is now $100 for a weekday session (add $50 for a weekend session). This includes up to 5 people. Each additional person is $25. This doesn’t include any print credit like it has in the past.
  • When you place a $300 order (excludes custom cards and albums), you will now receive your session’s (3.5×5) proofs complimentary.
  • Digital images will now be available for purchase at $150 per high resolution file.
  • I am no longer shooting weddings. I’ve recently decided it’s just too difficult with my little one.
I also mentioned I was working on a Bebe collection. I will have two packages in this collection.
      1. A Year in the Life ($1000) includes:
          - Five weekday sessions (add $50 for a weekend session): maternity, newborn, 4 months, 8 months and one year (or whenever you want them:)
          - Fifty custom designed, double sided (5×7) birth announcements. Envelopes included.
          - Fifty brag cards
          - One 8×10 print per session
          - Album
          - 15% off your initial print order per session
          - One low resolution image for your facebook/my space profile, blog, cell phone wallpaper, etc.
      2. A Perfect Little Package ($175) includes:
          - Weekday mini session (add $50 for a weekend session) of your newborn
          - Ten to fifteen finished images
          - Fifty custom designed, double sided (5×7) birth announcements. Envelopes included.
          - Fifty brag cards
          - One low resolution image for your facebook/my space profile, blog, cell phone wallpaper, etc.
          - 20% off your initial print order per session
I’ll be updating my site with these things soon.
Regarding this week’s mnm, we had no winners. I’m going to change a few things next week. First, the winner will be the person who gets the MOST correct. Second, I’ll have people email their answers to me instead of posting them on comments.  Third, you still can’t use the internet, but you can ask others if they know the answer.  THIS WEEK’S ANSWERS were 1) Rosa Parks 2) Shirley Dobson 3) Lot’s wife 4) Amelia Earnhert 5) Abigail Smith Adams.
And a little treat (maybe more for deanna than anyone else since she hasn’t seen these yet). I’ve been looking for a weedy field location. Here’s one a couple blocks from my house! We live in the perfect area. Close to everything (important places like walmart, lowes and the highway) but close to nothing (the river trails & wide expanses of beauty). If anyone’s looking to buy into a nice, quiet older neighborhood, check out sunset acres! Anyway, here’s a few from my shot a couple days ago of Deanna’s daughter (Deanna takes WAY more pics of Madison then I do of Hudson- she has a photography addiction). Yay madianne!

mnm #3 – happy monday!

Okay, so I decided the last few weeks’ questions were too easy and too definite… once one person got it, the others wouldn’t try b/c they knew they were right. So I’ll try something new this week and see if this is better. You are going to “name the woman who…”. Now, some of these are super easy and some are a little more challenging ONLY IF you don’t use the internet as a resource. This MNM is going to be on the honor’s system. Your answers have to come from your brain not the internet’s brain. No cheating please! I will be naming women from recent history, biblical history, fiction, and/or present day.

As always, submit your answers in the comments line by Monday at midnight. The winner will be the first to provide all the correct answers. The prize is for me to image one of your pictures. Here we go!

Name the…

1) historical woman who “took a stand by sitting”

2) present day woman who chairs the national day of prayer and whose husband is “focused on the family”

3) biblical woman who just couldn’t help but look back

4) first woman to really “get some air”

5) historical woman who was married to the second president and whose son was the 6th US president.

contest, cookies, and more

Last week’s weekly contest winner was Rachel L. Below is her son… her image was awesome. Hardly needed any touching up. I just did something kinda groovy to it. And the winner from the week before last (Deanna F) cashed in on her image. Pretty cute I must say. Love that looking down/eyelash pose.

Something to be looking forward to is ANOTHER CONTEST. Have you heard of a magazine called “COOKIE“? It’s a hip new magazine for moms. It has not only super awesome stuff about/for kids but also for stuff for moms who want to stay up with the latest and greatest things concerning beauty, fashion, etc. I just got my first month’s issue and I’m very excited about the fun pictures and helpful articles. Anyway, I’ll be giving away a year’s subscription in the next few weeks. I’m not sure what I’ll make you guys do to win it, but it’ll be fun! Tell your friends to check out my blog & be on the lookout!

Next order of business I’ve been meaning to blog about is the WINNER OF MY SPLASH PAGE CONTEST. I’m wanting to wait to announce the winners until I’m able to debut the thing live… showcasing the winning images. Sooo… what has to happen in order for that to be is I need to find someone who knows how to slice it and html it (whatever that means). If anyone knows how to do that (or knows someone who does), PLEASE talk to me:)

Also, I’m cooking up a BEBE COLLECTION for expecting parents. It’ll be a great package covering maternity through your baby’s first year. Keep posted as I’ll be blogging about that soon (and adding the info to my site).

One more thing. I’m working on changing my portrait SESSION FEE and adding a few NEW PRODUCTS I think you might like. Still fine tuning the details, but I’ll blog and post on my site very soon as well.

Thanks for reading!

more of this sweetheart

I’ve had too much fun playing with this sweet family’s images. I’ve gotten a few new photoshop tools for my toolbelt that sure adds some fun stuff to my pictures. BTW, I always like to add a few images from recent sessions to my website galleries, but never know which ones I should post. Feel free to tell me which ones I should post on my site!

She had the cutest little raincoat.  I just love images of children from this angle… looking down and the focus on the eyelashes. So sweet.

There’s a story here that just has to be told. She was playing in the big (shallow) pool in this park area. She loved looking at whatever she could find, which was mostly leaves. But she also found a worm. She was fascinated with the worm until it moved at which point, it scared her. I’m SO excited that I caught her reaction! What was sort of special is this is the first time the parents had seen this look on her (as a mom, I know new expressions are always special… even if it’s one like this).

I LOVE this image! I know, I know. For those who know better know that what should be in focus is her eyes (her hair is actually what’s in focus), but I still am in love with it. Her sweet complexion, beautiful dress… and I think I might even like that her hair’s what in focus since her hair is so pretty.

Maybe my new signature look will be children peering into window doors. There’s the one of the sweet blonde boy and redhead girl on my site that’s a personal favorite… I love it but I think this one might be up there for me. Okay, I can’t post anymore on here of this family otherwise I’ll spoil the exciting moment when they’re all posted on their private gallery (if I keep it up, they’ll have already seen them all!). But I just love posting everything on here!

feels good to be back

I had my first official shoot since Hudson was born (his shoots don’t really count)! It was so much fun to be back shooting. I had a blast and enjoyed meeting this sweet new family. This was actually my first out of town shoot, which was exciting. We were planning to visit family and learned of this family who lived in that same town who were interested in me photographing them. It worked out so well. Sweet, sweet little girl. She had balls of energy (though she was awfully pooped by the end of it) and took to me amazingly well. Here’s a sneak peak into our session.

mind numbing monday #2

This week’s mnm brain teaser… a sequel to last week’s 3 little pigs.

1. Pig #1 worked on his house 3 hours a day for 2 days. How long did he work?

2. Pig #2 built his house in 8 hours. He worked for 4 days. How many hours did he work each day?

3. Pig #3 worked for 16 hours. How much longer did he work than Pig # 2?

Here’s a before/after sample of what my magic little fingers can cook up in photoshop. Images taken by my neighbor and last week’s MNM winner. If you’re the first one to answer the questions correctly, I will image one of your pictures.
