{matilda jane trunk show} – fort worth photography

Picture 1

I’m so excited to be hosting my second annual Matilda Jane Trunk Show! For those unfamiliar with it, Matilda Jane is a boutique clothing line dedicated to creating fresh and fun dresses, skirts and tops for all the princesses in our lives. The brilliant thing about Matilda Jane clothing is that each clothing item is not only little girl friendly, but also 100% mother approved. Finally a compromise between style and trends created just for young girls 8 and under. They also have lots of beautiful pieces for us women! I wear mine ALL the time b/c they’re so comfy and flattering.

These outfits really are a work of art and can only be found in her online store or at trunk shows. The benefit to a trunk show is you actually get to see these beautiful works of art in person, hold them in your hands, and even try them on!

So, you need to SAVE THIS DATE:

Matilda Jane Trunk Show
Wednesday September 8th
10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (come and go)

We will have light snacks & drinks… and of course a TON of awesome clothes!

And, for a little more excitement, I am making a special offer for all our guests at the trunk show. For everyone who purchases a complete Matilda Jane Outfit, you will be eligible to receive a COMPLIMENTARY mini-session (on Saturday, October 23rd) in your brand new outfit once your clothing order arrives.

I’ve been on vacation. Can you tell? I don’t think I’ve logged into my blog account in, like, 3 weeks. I should also mention I’m pregnant. For those mommas out there who remember their first tri-mester, I’m sure you’ll sympathize with my being (very) tired and terribly unmotivated to do ANYTHING, much less work. So… I’ve been enjoying a little sabbatical from work. I’m still in my 1st trimester unmotivated-ness, but life must go on, so hopefully I’ll be posting soon from my upcoming sessions.

The Matilda Jane Trunk Show I co-hosted a week or two ago was a HIT! We had a good amount of guests and plenty of clothing was purchased. I even purchased a skirt and cardigan that I CAN’T wait to wear!

I was actually too busy trying stuff on to even think about taking pictures (not that I felt like it anyway since that goes with my being unmotivated to do anything:) so thankfully Sarah took lots that I’d love to share. So, check out this link and see the fun that was had!

You’ll want to mark your calendar (and start saving your pennies!) for Spring 2010 b/c I’m planning on hosting another trunk show then!

Matilda Jane Trunk Show – Save the Date!

A little over a year ago, I was introduced to the unique, creative, and stylish clothing line, Matilda Jane, and it was love at first site! For those not in-the-know, Matilda Jane is a boutique clothing line dedicated to creating fresh and fun dresses, skirts, tops and more for all the princesses in our lives. The brilliant thing about Matilda Jane clothing is that each clothing item is not only little girl friendly, but also 100% mother approved. Finally a compromise between style and trends created just for young girls 8 and under (they also have beautiful pieces for us moms!). These outfits really are a work of art and can only be found in her online store or at trunk shows.

I am very excited to announce that I will be teaming with Sarah of Sarah Anne Photography to host a trunk show this September in a location TBA in central Fort Worth. The benefit to a trunk show is you actually get to see these beautiful works of art in person, hold them in your hands, and even try them on!

{braums update} – fort worth photographer

I’m sure this won’t surprise anyone, but I went to Braum’s today to price match their grocery items to see how they compare with walmart (I haven’t been back to WM yet so I’m going off memory with their prices). They faired amazingly well- they were about the same on several items and even beat walmart on several items, which I was excited about. In case any of you happen to live by a braums & are interested, I thought I’d post my findings:

Feta Cheese- $3.29 (comparable to walmart)

Butter (4 sticks/box)- $2.19

Cheese (8 oz grated or block)- $1.59 (WAY less then walmart)

Yogurt (6 oz)- $.57

Eggs (dozen large)- $1.73 (same as WM)

Cottage Cheese (16oz)- $1.69

OJ (gallon)- $3.99 (I think this might be a good deal. I pay $2.08 for a 64oz carton of generic wm OJ)

Milk (gallon)- $3.29 (the braums lady on the phone who told me $2.50 was mistaken, but it’s still cheaper then wm’s $5 gallon of hormone free milk)

1/2 gallon ice cream- $4.29

Red potatoes (5 lb bag)- $2.89

Salad mix (10 oz)- $2.19/ spinach 6oz $1.29

Cole Slaw (16oz)- $1.29

Apples- Gala $1.29/lb, Fuji $1.29/lb, Granny $.99/lb

Ground Chuck Beef (2 lb roll)- $5.19 for 80/20 & $4.19 for 73/27 (I think this is comparable if not better then wm)

Chicken (boneless skinless hormone free)- $6.19 for 1.65 lbs (Not a great deal)

Bananas- $.59/lb (comparable to wm)

So the moral of the story is, if you just need the basics (milk, oj, bread, cheese, eggs, butter, basic fruit) and don’t want to mess with Walmart, Braums is the best, least expensive option… as their dairy products are all made with their hormone/antibiotic free milk they make. Happy shopping!

{braums!} – fort worth photographer

I’m currently wondering if I’m the last person in Texas to learn about Braum’s AWESOME dairy products. I’ve heard of braums all my life being that I grew up in Oklahoma and they’re everywhere, but I didn’t realize how excellent their products (their animals are raised on a healthy, hormone and antibiotic free diet) AND prices are. That’s the kicker for me. At walmart, a gallon of hormone free milk costs almost $5 but at a braum’s store, it costs only $2.50!!!  That’s the same price as normal milk that’s chalk full of who knows what. And WHY (I ask myself) have I been buying milk and eggs anywhere else? As soon as these two gallons currently sitting in my fridge are gone, I’m shopping Braums- and supporting this quality, family owned business. Ready, set, go!

A few more of the carlins. I think I’m finished.

I loved their super casual outfits

{mommy alert} – fort worth child photographer

I was recently introduced to www.caregiversmarketplace.com, which is an organization whose soul mission is to ease some of the financial burden of caring for an ill, elderly, or disabled family member or friend. They team with companies like Kimberly Clark to provide rebates on products you already purchase. Check it out. For the mommies out there using Huggies diapers, you’ll definitely want to check it out!

Also, a few from a recent little session with a dear friend. She is due in April and has the sweetest little three year old. Her hubby’s joined the military and is in boot camp as we speak. He’ll be away for several months and won’t be able to be there for the birth. Deena’s probably one of the strongest people I know, but it’s still going to be a time of stretching. We’re all praying for the perfectly easy baby, right Deena?!

There’s no question who her mommy is, right?

Her mommy’s tickles sure got her laughing!

I love the above right one. What a perfect solemn expression.

vaccines

You’ve heard it said the two topics you don’t discuss are religion and politics. I’d almost stick “vaccinating your child” on that list. As I’ve been having to research this topic for Hudson, I’ve noticed this topic seems to be a touchy one as people often have strong opinions either way. I talked with Hudson’s pediatrician about it and (after trying to dissuade me from considering an alternative vaccination schedule:) he recommended I read Dr. Sears “The Vaccine Book”.

To vaccinate or not to vaccinate- that is the question. Or so I thought. Now I realize there is a middle ground between vaccinating all or none. This book is the most balanced and least hysterical book I’ve read on the subject. He even provides you with an alternative schedule if you want a middle ground.

Dr. Bob lists each disease and the vaccines available for that disease. He talks about the disease: what it is, why it is and isn’t a concern, if it even occurs nowadays, etc. He also talks about the vaccines: ingredients, why those ingredients are of concern, the effects of those ingredients on our kiddos, etc. He also talks about things you can do to help prevent your kiddo from getting those diseases in the first place (ie: breastfeeding, not doing daycare, etc.).

If you’re currently trying to make this all too difficult decision, I definitely recommend this book.

diaper comparison

I decided this week to see what the price differences were between walmart and target’s (pampers & huggies) diapers. I was shocked to find there is not much of a difference. On some, walmart is pennies less (total not per diaper) and often target has a better per diaper cost. The benefit of purchasing them at target is that target offers coupons and sales. Now, I know I’m not a baby cheapskate blog, but my friend, after looking at my findings said I should post as there are other moms out there that might find it helpful.

Click diaperchart below. Keep in mind, there are gaps in my research and prices may change.
