{my family}- sommer photography

We had our family’s portraits taken recently by my dearest friend Sommer Carlin of Sommer Photography. You should check her out- her work’s amazing! She’s also running an amazing promotion right now- $200 off a newborn session! Check it out.

Sommer was a sport, to say the least! This is my favorite of our family portraits… and you’ll notice Hudson was NOT looking at the camera. That was pretty much how the shoot went. Getting Hudson to do three things at once- sit, smile & look at the camera- was impossible! But at least he’s doing two of the three here, right? I have a whole new appreciation for the moms and dads on that side of the camera, feeling terrible that their child’s not cooperating. They’re not necessarily a bad child- they’re just a child!

Oh, can’t forget about baby #2 (who continues to be nameless b/c of our indecisiveness).

And as crazy as it seems, this “shoe” picture is my absolute favorite from the entire shoot. I just love the colors and textures of the porch and how it works perfectly with the colors we’re wearing. I want a humongous canvas of it for our guest bedroom… but I’m still trying to talk hubby into that purchase:)

{$10,000}

Some random person in Fort Worth nominated my husband, Adam, for America’s Most Wanted All Star contest (for pulling that guy out of the burning car). For details see the website but basically he wins by people voting for him. One email address per day can vote and there is a weekly winner, then the voting numbers restart the next week. Every weekly winner is in the running for the Grand Prize….$10,000 :-) Didn’t your mom always tell you to VOTE!!! So go vote for someone (I’d recommend him- we could use the money to re-pipe the old galvanized pipes in our house)….every day… with every email address you have!

Oh, and feel free to pass this around to all your friends or post it on your blog!

{the osborne family} – fort worth child photographer

Say hello to the Osborne family! We shot at the coolest location, the Hawk’s Creek Golf course clubhouse. An interesting tidbit about it was where it is built (in Westworth Village) was country back in the day (1925) and the wealthy of Fort Worth would build their country homes here. Amon Carter had his built near this one, but apparently his wasn’t built of rock, so it didn’t last. It’s one amazing structure- sort of resembles a castle.

this is my blooper for this shoot. I just love the expressions of the parents. And the son’s cracks me up too! He was just chilling while the his sister hammed it up.

The first picture reminds me of myself when I was younger, always trying to love on my step brother. And of course, he, in his macho-ness, had to play mr. cool and sluff off his little sister.

So full of energy. We took several run breaks.

I love this sequence. I had 5 or 6 I loved- same pose, slightly different expressions and hand motions. Do you LOVE this apron peasant top? I’m pretty much in love with it and those adorable pants. Koodos to Barbie Ford of Posh Petunia.

So dreamy.

I think this is my favorite. I just love her expression. And wouldn’t you know she posed herself.

I really like this one too, though.

Another pettiskirt! I love them. They go with just about anything- including cowboy boots. Thanks to Angela Wilde with Miss Things Boutique for her amazing work!

What girl doesn’t just love to twirl in such a fun skirt!

{the miller family} – fort worth child/family photographer

I photographed the Miller family one afternoon this week. I usually prefer to photograph young children in the morning as they’re usually at their prime, but it just didn’t work out this time for that. The littlest was a little tired and wanted to go play rather than sit still (who doesn’t, right?). But  in spite of that, I thought we got some great ones of everyone!

As a random side note, the dad (Darren) is my insurance agent (Darren Miller State Farm). We’ve been with them for almost four years now and we’ve had a very positive experience. We’ve experienced one hit and run and one tree falling on our lines knocking out our electricity and they’ve been more than fabulous to work with through both of those experiences. His number’s 817.292.9119 if you are in need of an insurance agent:)

4) Shirley Temple Black

5) Lucille Ball

Email me the picture you’d like me to work on!

So, I’ve never really had a non-profit organization I really had a strong connection with or desire to donate my time to, but I think I’ve maybe found one finally and I’m VERY excited. I think sometime next year, I’ll have a special time where I donate a portion of my profits to their agency. The organization is the “MOTHERS MILK BANK OF NORTH TEXAS“. They area an agency that provides premature & critically ill infants with donor human milk when their mother’s own milk is not available. Today, I became a milk donor! I’m so excited b/c it’s something that not just anyone can do. I can use this stage I’m in and help save precious little lives.

An interesting piece of trivia: The largest donation they’ve ever received from a donor was 12,000 ounces! That’s 100 gallons of milk!!!

You too might be able to have a hand in saving these little lives without making any big changes in your lifestyle. Tom Thumb has offered to donate (1% of your purchase) to the milk bank with each purchase you make. It’s that easy! Just tell them mmbnt’s Good Neighbor Number upon checkout: 11063. You can also link your albertson’s card to the number 49001005363 as they have committed to donate as well!

hats & pettiskirt!!!

I’ve been up to so much the last few weeks it seems. I’ve been shooting for my etsy boutiques… hats and pettiskirts- two of my favorite things! The pettiskirt is compliments of Miss Things Boutique and the hats compliments of Wee Wittle Tids Boutique. I’ll post a few of my favorites now and maybe more later. It’s getting late:)

this is miss thing’s halloween pettiskirt. the pettiskirt is reversible so that one side is more black then orange and vice versa. pretty nifty.

this cupcake purse goes with the little strawberry hat above. little girls would love that combo!

I was going for funky with this shoot. did I achieve?

this one is hands down my favorite. what a perfect look! do you recognize marilee from my web gallery? She’s grown up a lot since the little pig tailed, purple polka dotted 2 year old. they grow up so fast…

didn’t cynthia sport this hat perfectly?! I think this one is my personal favorite hat.

I LOVE this picture for some reason. There were actually 3 others taken sequentially to this… sort of like a storyboard (you can see what I mean if you’re my facebook friend). it’s my favorite.

this one might be my favorite…

and OF COURSE we had to try the pettiskirt on Madison… even though it was definitely a couple sizes too big. Isn’t it adorable and make you want one?! Perhaps you’d at least like some pictures of your little girl in one at least. Well, there’s a chance that might come true. Assuming my pettiskirt lady continues to trade pettiskirt for picture with me, I’m going to make a contest out of it. You’d submit a picture of your precious little girl (I’d specify what age I’m looking for) and the winner (I’d pick my favorite from the pictures of course- so send a good one!) receives a free session in the pettiskirt. Let me know if you might be interested and I’ll try to make it happen!

blue eyed girl

Here’s my friend’s adorable little blue eyed girl- this time sporting the cutest little blue hat. I decided a few weeks ago that I needed more props for clients to choose from for our sessions (to add a little variety to their wardrobe). Deanna told me about etsy and after looking long enough I realized the sellers who had products I wanted to buy were those who had smashing pictures of the product. My little marketing mind started churning and realized there was an opportunity waiting to happen. So, I messaged several sellers whose product I’d like to own but who didn’t have (much if any) professional images of their products (mostly pettiskirt and hat sellers). I had a few interested parties… one being “Wee Wittle Tid’s Boutique“. She has AMAZING work. The deal was I shoot their products, give them the images like below and I keep the product. Not a terrible trade! So… see this adorable hat and go check out the hat lady’s online boutique!

tipsie toes… shoes as cute as the name

I can’t wait for Hudson to start wearing shoes because I can’t wait to buy his first pair of Tipsie Toes shoes. They are SUPER cute and SUPER good for his little “learning-to-walk” feet. I know, I know. He’s only 2 months old. I’m just thinking ahead… getting prepared.

If you’ve never heard of tipsie toes, check out their site (www.tipsietoes.com). They’re having their Labor Day sale through September 7th… 20% off all tipsie toes merchandise when you enter the coupon code LABOR20.

One tidbit of information you might find interesting is the company is actually locally owned and operated. When I say local, I mean good ol Fort Worth, TX. I actually worked with the owner/designer’s husband at BNSF (that’s how I got acquainted with their product). Her story is super interesting. Check it out.

realtor anyone?

I’ve had such a fabulously encouraging response so far on the contest (8 entries just in the first day!). Keep em coming.  Thanks to all who have taken the time to visit my site and blog.

Something super out of this world happened that I just had to blog about because it blessed me so much (and I thought I’d say thanks with a plug in return). I had asked my realtor, Jeanenne Kienle with Keller Williams, if she knew of any high school seniors who she could tell about my recently launched senior rep program. She wrote back and asked if, instead, I would want her to email all her Keller Williams agents about my work/website. She said there were about 380 agents- I said “you bet!”. Can’t turn down an opportunity like that. Anyway, she emailed me what she wrote and it was such an amazing referral I just had to post it:

“Just a quick note to give you information about the most creative, inspirational photographer I have seen in years.  I sold this young lady a home about a year ago and she was just growing her business…..now it has grown……. and so has she as a photographer…….please enter her site below if for no other reason but to have a smile for the day!!!  Her photos of children are out of this world!!  Her blog is just as enjoyable.”

Amazing. And so is she. If you’re in the market for a knowledgeable, helpful, highly qualified agent to sell or buy a home, you should call her at 817.307.0600 or email her at jk@fivestarhometeam.net. Two of the attributes I appreciated most about Jeanenne was: 1) she didn’t force her (very educated and qualified) opinion on us unless we asked. I always asked though because I knew she knew more than us. I never regretted following her suggestions. 2) She was SUPER patient. We were VERY picky buyers- we wanted everything for nothing. But she never made us feel like a waste of her time or a second class buyer. She stuck with us to the end and we ended up with EXACTLY what we wanted and for an AMAZING price.
