{photo contest!!!} – fort worth photography

For fun, I’ve decided to host a photo contest. There are SO many incredibly talented folks out there and it’s always fun to show off a few of your favorite images. And the winners will receive a free subscription to Rangefinder magazine (LOVE this magazine)!

The rules are simple. 1) Email me one of your favorite images to amandalynnphoto@yahoo.com. 2) Provide me with your Name, address, and phone number.

Sadly this is open to US mailing addresses only. There will be two winners, one for the portrait category (anything where people are the main subject of the image) and one for the non-portrait category. The contest ends August 31st and the winner will be posted on my blog soon afterwards along with the winning images.

{twitter} – fort worth photographer

Twitter twitter twitter. I hear so much about twitter EVERYWHERE and I just don’t get it. Now, I am normally pretty quick to advance with technology but I’ve been dragging my feet on twitter b/c it just seems stupid and pointless. I sorta think that the technology people out there couldn’t think of anything else to create (you know how they are always releasing new things to make the most recent new thing obsolete) so they made twitter.

Now, I’m willing to be convinced that I need to jump on the bandwagon, but I’m going to need to hear some good argument why it’s beneficial to “tweet”. If you would like to try to convince me to start “tweeting”, the person who actually succeeds will win a gift print size (4×6, 5×7, 8×10) of any of my art pieces.

{pettiskirt contest shoot!} – fort worth children’s photographer

Remember the pettiskirt contest from last fall? These little girls were our winners (actually, one of them was but who can only photograph one of three sisters?!). We’ve rescheduled probably 3 times for one reason or another and we finally made it work! Sweltering as it was, we managed to have plenty of fun and capture lots of sweet moments. The girls just loved their skirts.  They might’ve been a little sad they didn’t get to keep them… I had a fun surprise for them at the end that sure made for some cute shots!

These adorable skirts were made by Miss Things Boutique. So talented.

I’m not sure why, but I LOVE the one on the left. But of course her laugh on the right is so fun too!

I love “hair blowing in the wind” shots. Yay for gusts of wind! I also just loved how she kept crossing her legs like that.

I’m not sure but I think this one might be my favorite of them all… at least at this very moment. This sweet little girl was our actual winner.

I gave them a few different hints as to the surprise. It’s sticky, swirly and on a stick. Can you guess what it was?

I photographed this sweet family last fall for Christmas portraits in the evening and this sweet little one was not in the mood then for smiles, but we got some good smiles out of her this day!

This is as close to a “their all looking at the camera and smiling” portrait as I was able to get. Tricky getting three girls to look at the camera and smile all at the same time. I think there’s a small smile in the far right’s face… maybe?

Mmmmmm. They did guess a lollipop, but I told them “yes, but no ordinary lollipop”.

LOVE this of them walking away. Couldn’t have been more perfect.

{live model contest winner} – fort worth child photographer

I am having a live model during the upcoming workshop(s) on “How to Take Better Pictures of Your Children” so that the attendees can practice the concepts I’m teaching as we go. I thought about using Hudson during this, but decided to make it a little more fun and open it up to another child.

And the winner is Myla! Little Myla is almost 2 and the reason her mom gave for why she should be the model for our workshop is she can wink which is pretty funny at her age. She loves to dance, shrug her shoulders, etc. for the camera. Looking forward to meeting you Myla!

And below is the picture her mom sent in for the contest.

{…and the winner is} – dfw child photographer

Sydney Miller, daughter of Kelli & Darren Miller. Kelli was so excited about this contest- her diligence to get the right photographs of her daughters (she entered her three daughters) made me even more excited about the contest! She has quite the knack for photography as can be seen by the picture below that she took of Sydney. Sydney’s quite the little natural, I must say:)

I can’t wait for the pettiskirt shoot- I think we’re going to have too much fun! But I feel so bad choosing Sydney and not her sisters. I wasn’t planning on having any runners up, but I think Brooke and Aubrey would enjoy playing dress up with their sister. So- there you go. They can all be winners. It’ll be loads of fun- don’t forget to check back for the final images from our shoot!

{mnm- phrase origins}

This week’s contest will again be “phrase origins”. I’ll tell you a common phrase and you’ll tell me what it means and where you think it originated. You’ll receive a point for each you guess correctly, so you could receive two points per phrase.

This week’s phrases are:

1) “Warts and all”

2) “Jump on the bandwagon”

Rules: Deadline- monday at midnight. Who wins- the person with the most points. How to submit answers- email them to amandalynnphoto@yahoo.com. I’ll actually let you use the internet this week:) Prize- I will edit one of your photos.

{pettiskirt contest} – fort worth child photographer

Just an update on my pettiskirt contest. To enter, submit a cute photo of your precious little girl (accepting ages 6 and under) to amandalynnphoto@yahoo.com. The deadline is the end of February. I will pick my favorite from the pictures of course- so send a good one that shows off your cutie! Feel free to tell me why your daughter should be the winner.

The winner will receive a complimentary portrait session modeling the pettiskirt as well as an 8×10 of your favorite image. I will announce the winner early March- so keep posted! The winner’s mom will be asked to provide me with your daughter’s measurements (waist and waist to knee) so be ready for that. The designer will then custom make a petti to fit your daughter. I’m not sure yet what color petti I’ll have her make. I’ll choose a color that compliments the winner.

We’ll also need to accessorize the skirt so, mom, be ready to dig in her closet to find some fun leggings, shoes, shirts, etc. I’ll have some ideas that will help.

mnm- phrase origins

We didn’t have any entrants for last week’s mnm contest, so we’ll do the same contest again this week!

Doing something different this week. We’re going to explore the origins of common phrases. I’ll list the phrase and you tell me the meaning and origin. I’ll start with an example to help in case there’s any confusion.

Example: “Fly off the handle”

Meaning: Lose self-control

Origin: This is an American phrase (you don’t really need to tell me this part, but I thought it was interesting to include:) and it alludes to the uncontrolled way a loose axe-head flies off from its handle.

Here are the real ones:

1) Fair and square

2) Run of the mill

3) Red letter day

4) The full monty

Rules: Deadline- monday at midnight. How to play- guess the meaning and origin. Who wins- you get one point for each answer you get right and the person with the most points wins. How to submit answers- email them to amandalynnphoto@yahoo.com. Limitations- no internet for research but beyond that, it’s fair game. Prize- I will image one of your photos.

This week’s mnm winner

Rachel L was this week’s winner and here’s her adorable little daughter. She’s getting better and better on her photography skills and making my photoshop skills look alittle less exciting. :) Good job Rachel!

mnm weekly contest is back
